Geothermal Power
Currently there is a 30% tax credit for the installation of a geothermal system.
According to the Geothermal Energy Association, installed geothermal capacity grew by 5% in the United States in 2012. This growth builds on the already growing trend of geothermal usage over the past decade.
However, in order for this trend to last, the government needs to continue its support of these programs by the continuation of tax credits and by its support of geothermal research and development.
As of the first week in March 2013, geothermal industry leaders and government officials met in Washington, D.C. to discuss how they should move the geothermal industry forward.
Currently there is a 30% tax credit for the installation of a geothermal system. This tax credit is available through the end of 2016. In addition to this, many states have extra incentives available for the installation of residential geothermal systems.
